Sportify
Real-time sports odds platform and full-stack event wagering system.
Context & The Challenge
A full-stack web and mobile application built from scratch for sports betting. This project significantly deepened my understanding of system design, real-time data handling, and full-stack architecture.
Live sporting events generate rapid bursts of concurrent bets and price fluctuations. Existing solutions suffered from database write locks, stale odds display, and unacceptable latency during critical match moments.
System Architecture & Approach
Designed a distributed full-stack architecture with a React web client, React Native mobile app, and a Node.js backend utilizing WebSocket subscriptions and optimized MySQL indexing for sub-second odds dispatch.
Read/Write Workload Decoupling
Separated read-heavy odds telemetry from write-heavy transactional bet placements, eliminating database contention bottlenecks.
In-Memory Caching Layer
Implemented Redis-backed in-memory caching for active fixtures to absorb high-frequency traffic spikes during final tournament minutes.
Deliverables & Results
- —Live Odds Streaming: WebSocket pipelines broadcasting instant market updates across thousands of concurrent clients.
- —Atomic Transaction Ledger: ACID-compliant MySQL transactional procedures ensuring accurate balance accounting under load.
- —Unified Web & Mobile Experience: Shared business logic and state management across web and native devices.
- —Risk Management Dashboard: Real-time telemetry monitoring aggregated exposure across open betting books.
Maintained sub-100ms odds propagation latency during peak weekend matches with zero transactional discrepancies.
“Real-time architectures require strict separation of concerns; decoupling high-throughput state broadcasts from transactional persistence is key to scaling under pressure.”
