Context & The Challenge

A complete cross-platform mobile application designed and built for MAXUS site management using Flutter. Streamlines real-time tracking of resource allocation, project milestones, and inspection checklists with robust offline synchronization capabilities.

Field managers and site supervisors struggled with unreliable cellular connectivity at remote construction sites, leading to lost inspection notes, delayed inventory audits, and communication breakdowns.

System Architecture & Approach

Engineered a cross-platform mobile application in Flutter with an offline-first architecture, allowing supervisors to complete inspections, log equipment, and capture photo audits offline, with automatic conflict-resolved synchronization upon reconnecting.

Key Architectural Decisions

Cross-Platform Flutter Rendering

Chose Flutter for its single-codebase performance and predictable rendering across disparate Android and iOS hardware used in the field.

Background Queue Processing

Implemented background work managers for automatic queue processing with exponential backoff when network signal is regained.

Deliverables & Results

  • —Offline-First Synchronization: Local SQLite database caching enabling uninterrupted operation without network connectivity.
  • —Photo Audit Tool: On-device image compression and GPS watermarking for site inspections.
  • —Milestone Tracking: Interactive timeline tracking daily worker allocation and equipment availability.
  • —Safety Checklist Validation: Enforced sign-offs and regulatory safety checklists prior to machinery operation.

Saved supervisors an estimated 2 hours per day in manual reporting and completely eradicated lost field data across all active construction sites.

Engineering Reflection

“In field software, network absence is the default state, not an edge case; designing with offline-first primitives from day one prevents catastrophic architectural rewrites.”
